Dragon Con is next week. New York Comic Con is October 8\u201311. Halloween is October 31. Fabric ordered today will not make Dragon Con. A repair kit you can actually carry still can.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mjtrends.com\/products.Variety-Pack,Thread,Notions\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/mjtrends.b-cdn.net\/images\/product\/5286\/singer-variety-pack-of-polyester-thread_924x699.jpg\" alt=\"Singer variety pack of polyester thread with needles and a threader\"\/><\/a><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">You will not sew a new catsuit in a Marriott. You can close a popped seam with a needle, polyester thread, and ten quiet minutes.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">This is not a packing list for a sewing studio. Leave the machine at home. Pack what saves a vinyl or latex garment on a convention floor: the adhesive that matches the fiber, a way to hand-sew a seam that pops, something that cuts, something that cleans, a multi-tool, a body tape, and a bag that keeps all of it together.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" style=\"font-weight:700\">The kit that fits in a pouch<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">Pack this. Leave the serger at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Needle and thread for hand sewing.<\/strong> When a seam pops or comes apart, you close it by hand \u2014 you do not hunt for a hotel sewing machine. Pack a few hand needles and polyester thread in the colors you actually sewed. A <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mjtrends.com\/products.Variety-Pack,Thread,Notions\">Singer variety pack<\/a> is $4.19, comes with three needles and a threader, and covers black, white, red, and the rest of the basics. Match the thread to the garment, not to whatever is in the toiletry bag. Vinyl and latex do not forgive a pin; stitch from the inside when you can, and do not yank the repair to test it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A seam ripper or small scissors.<\/strong> You need one cutting tool that fits in a pocket. Keep the cover on. Do not pack shears.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Stain remover that matches the fiber.<\/strong> Makeup, nacho cheese, and ballpoint ink happen on the floor. Household stain sticks and solvents wreck vinyl shine and age latex. For PVC, patent, and stretch vinyl, pack travel-size <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtrends.com\/products.viviclean-vinyl-cleaner-250ml,Vinyl-Care,Notions\">Viviclean vinyl cleaner<\/a> (250 ml) and a microfiber cloth. Spot-clean, rinse the residue, blot dry. Latex: warm water and a drop of mild soap, then dry away from heat. Keep oil-based removers off latex.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A small multi-tool.<\/strong> Snaps, D-rings, grommets, and costume hardware fail at the same moment as seams. A compact multi-tool with pliers and a flat screwdriver closes a jump ring and tightens a loose screw. If you are flying, skip a knife blade \u2014 TSA will take it \u2014 and pack pliers-only or put the bladed tool in checked luggage. Cap anything sharp.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A body measuring tape.<\/strong> A 60-inch soft tape is how you check whether a strap still reaches, whether a friend\u2019s loaner actually fits, and whether you should order a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mjtrends.com\/pattern.php\">custom-fit pattern<\/a> the minute you get home. The <a href=\"https:\/\/mjtrends.com\/products.Dritz-Retractable,Tape-measure,Notions\">Dritz Wrap n Stay<\/a> ($8.99) is built for taking your own measurements: wrap, retract, read. Do not use a hardware tape; it will not wrap a body.<\/li>\n<li><strong>A way to carry all of it.<\/strong> Loose needles in a backpack lining is how the kit disappears. Use a zippered notions pouch or a hard glasses case for needles, scissors, ripper, tape, and the multi-tool. Put liquids \u2014 adhesive, shine, cleaner \u2014 in a clear quart zip bag so they do not leak on the costume and so a security bin can see them. Clip the pouch to the inside of the con bag. If it is not in one place, you will not have it when the seam goes.<\/li>\n<li><strong>The right adhesive, not \u201cglue.\u201d<\/strong> Vinyl and latex are not interchangeable. If the costume is PVC, patent, or stretch PVC, pack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mjtrends.com\/products.Vinyl,Adhesive,Notions\">vinyl adhesive<\/a> \u2014 it bonds the shiny face to itself and stays flexible. If the costume is latex sheeting, pack <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mjtrends.com\/products.Ammonia-based-latex,Adhesive,Notions\">ammonia-based latex adhesive<\/a> and a scrap of old credit card as an applicator. Super glue makes a crunchy, brittle repair. That is how a two-inch split becomes a six-inch tear by Saturday.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Shine that matches the fiber.<\/strong> Latex ships with powder so it does not weld to itself. Turn the garment inside out if you can. Tie a knot, take small stitches along the original seam line, and fasten off. Vinyl wants a slightly longer stitch so you are not perforating a tear line. Latex is glued, not sewn \u2014 if a latex seam opens, that is adhesive work, not needle work. Vinyl adhesive melts shiny PVC to shiny PVC. It will not reliably grab the knit backing. Latex adhesive is a different formula. Mix them up and the seam peels during photos.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-medium-font-size wp-block-paragraph\">On the floor: clean the split, thin coat on both faces, wait until tacky, press, roll with a hotel loyalty card. Do not yank it to test. Let it sit while you drink water. Vinyl cleaner on vinyl. Water and mild soap on latex.
