DIY Spike Headband

Spikes are definitely the embellishment of the season. The coolest way to wear them? As an accent!

Get inspired to switch up your look with this super chic and easy DIY Spike Headband tutorial by MinjiVanPark. Here are some of the materials you’ll need for this fun do it yourself activity: screw back spikes, a nail, a pair of scissors, a marker and a thin belt. First, measure the space on your head where you’ll want the headband to be placed. Mark the measurement on the belt.

Then, make sure there’s a little extra space, just in case it doesn’t fit quite right, and cut it. Next, pierce a hole into the belt with the nail. Essentially, this project is creating a little mini belt for your head, and you’ll be able to wrap the headband around your head like an actual belt. Then, you’ll have to mark out where you want to place your spikes.

Measure out your spikes equal distance apart, for example, Minji spaced hers out about 2.5cm apart. Now it’s time to start adding holes onto all the dots you marked with the nail. The final step is to add in your screw back spikes and you’ll be ready to rock!

Wrapping it like an actual belt around your head is such a simple idea, but it makes the whole design adjustable and more versatile.

The project sounds beginner-friendly, but still stylish enough that it doesn’t look like a basic craft when finished.

The tip about leaving extra length when measuring your head is practical, since belts can be tricky if they end up even slightly too short.

I’m curious how comfortable it is with the screw backs on the inside, especially if you wear it for a few hours.

I appreciate how simple the materials list is, especially that it only needs basic tools like scissors and a marker.

I could see this working with colored belts too, not just black, especially if you want a more playful version of the spike trend.

This would be a fun way to customize with different spike sizes or even mixing finishes instead of keeping them all the same.

The equal spacing step seems like the most important part for getting that polished look instead of something random or messy.

Spacing the spikes about 2.5 cm apart seems like a small detail but it probably makes a big difference in keeping it from looking crowded or uneven.

Calling it a mini belt for your head really helped me visualize how it closes and adjusts, which isn’t obvious at first glance.

Marking everything out before punching holes is a good reminder, since once you pierce the belt there’s no going back.

I like the idea of turning a thin belt into a headband, that mini belt concept makes the spikes feel more wearable instead of over-the-top.

This feels like a great way to use leftover screw back spikes from other projects instead of buying a whole new set.

Using a nail to pierce the holes is clever, though I’d probably swap in an awl or something similar just for a bit more control.
