DIY A-Line Faux Leather Skirt
A faux leather skirt is definitely an of-the-moment pick for this season. As the temps begin to drop around the nation, there are just so many fun and playful ways to wear it. Add with a crisp button up blouse and heels for a look that works well for the office or brunch with the girls. Or, get cozy with an oversized knit sweater or warm cardigan. A faux leather skirt with an a line cut is versatile, giving any look an effortless vibe, while the leather adds edge. Add chic and polished extras, like a statement necklace and cut out blocked heels to show off your style.
Liz, blogger from Cotton and Curls, created a wonderful tutorial for an a line faux leather skirt. Take a look for yourself at these gorgeous images for a little bout of inspiration, and follow along below. You’ll need:
- 1-2 yards of faux leather fabric
- a set of no sew tape for hemming
- thread
- scissors
- 1 zipper
- pins.
First off, cut three pieces according to your personal measurements. Hemming is not a must, but it’s a simple process if you use new sew hemming tape.
If you’ve never added a zipper, there are plenty of simple tutorials to guide you online. First, take two pieces of leather and measure out where the zipper will be placed. Give allowance for the hem.
Sew the bottom pieces of the skirt where the zipper will meet. Then, sew the rest of the zipper in by pinning it to the untouched side of the fabric. Repeat on the other side, and you’re set.
Another option is using an invisible zipper, although it depends on what you have available. Next, you’ll need to sew the third piece together and complete the skirt. In close, all you’ll have to do next is use the no sew hem tape to give it a finishing touch.
