If you’ve never heard of the term “pastel goth” try hitting up Tumblr or Pinterest for an instant dose of alternative fashion inspiration. Pastel goth is a mashup of all things gothic inspired with a sweet, innocent twist. Fans of the style often use a color palette inspired by childhood nostalgia, like tones of lavender, cotton candy pink or baby blue. Others might even have their hair dyed in a soft pastel hue and create contrast by wearing an outfit of all black. Anything goes when it comes to the pastel goth style!
Yumi King has created a clever DIY tutorial for a DIY Pastel Gothic bra. For materials, you’ll need a plain bra, studs, spikes, small pastel flowers, lace trim, pearl trimming and a needle and thread. For this design, Yumi opted for an all white bra.
- First, start by sewing the pearl trim onto the cups of the bra, using the desired length. You can do this by using your needle and thread, working carefully along the edges and cutting the excess trim off the end.
- Next, you’ll be attaching your decorations to the lace trim for the top of bra.
- Attach the small pastel colored flowers, and then screw on each spikes to the trim. For her design, she alternated between pastel flowers and gold spikes.
- Lastly, sew on the lace trim to the top edge of the bra.
The result is saccharine sweet with goth-inspired flavor! Her only wish was that the spikes were a little smaller. You’re just in luck! We have tons of variations of spikes and studs, offered in a wide variety of sizes. You could even add studs and spikes to any basic pastel item, like a knit beanie or sweater, for a hint of pastel goth style.

The step about attaching spikes to the lace trim first is helpful, I wouldn’t have thought to build the decorative strip separately before sewing it onto the bra.
I like how the tutorial balances soft elements like pearl trim and pastel flowers with the harsher gold spikes, it really nails that pastel goth contrast without looking overdone.
The suggestion to try this technique on a beanie or sweater makes it feel more approachable, since not everyone wants to customize a bra right away.
Using an all white bra as the base was a smart move since it lets the lavender and pink accents pop, and the lace trim ties everything together nicely.
Alternating pastel flowers with gold spikes is such a simple pattern idea but it gives the piece a really intentional look instead of random embellishment.
Sewing the pearl trim along the cup edges seems like a subtle detail, but it adds that sweet, almost vintage vibe that contrasts nicely with the gothic spikes.
I appreciate the note about wishing the spikes were smaller because scale really matters here, especially when mixing delicate flowers with metal hardware.
