DIY Clear Vinyl Hair Bows

BY admin on February 22, 2017

Go for a goth-glam look by creating some clear vinyl hair bows. Use this simple and easy to follow do it yourself tutorial created by the team at Gloomth. The Gloomthzine is related to a team of like-minded creatives from the website Gloomth & Cult of Melancholy.

Creative director Taeden Hall created this super easy do it yourself tutorial to create some adorable hair accessories using clear vinyl fabric. Use this tutorial as a base, and let your imagination run wild.

  1. First, you’ll need to get your materials, which includes at least a few feet of clear vinyl fabric, glitter in various colors, confetti, hot glue gun, scissors, ribbon and hair clips. For this tutorial, the finished hair bow will measure about five inches wide and about ten inches tall.
  2. You’ll need to cut out the fabric to about give inches across and ten inches high, but if you want a smaller hair bow, measure about three inches from the side of the fabric and about six inches tall. Repeat this process twice if you want to make more than one hair bow.
  3. Next, fold the vinyl in half, and lightly smooth out the fabric, making sure to remove any dirty debris. You can cut off some of the edges to make a smooth finish.
  4. Open the fabric back up, and then use the hot glue gun to place a line of hot glue. Then, go crazy and add some confetti and glitter inside the center of the fabric. Sure, the fabric might look like a hot mess right now, but you’re almost done.
  5. Fold the fabric closed so the glitter and confetti can’t fall out of the sides. Add some hot glue along the edges and then lay the ribbon on top.
  6. Press the ribbon into place, and continue to lay down the ribbon on each side of the fabric. You have the option of adding ribbon to both sides of the vinyl fabric, or you can just add ribbon to one side, it’s your choice.
  7. Squeeze the middle of the fabric to make the center of the hair bow. You’ll need to have a small amount of ribbon to keep the center part of the bow closed. Glue the hair clip onto the back so that you’ll have an easy way to wear the bow. Ta-dah!

If you’ve ever seen the creepy gloriousness of gothic-lolita fashion, you’ll definitely know how cute the style can be. Fans of the style like to wear frilly petticoats, elaborate outfits with tons of accessories and cute dresses. Often times, gothic lolita fans will wear tons of bows or hair accessories to complete their look.

Try adding some adorable accessories to your wardrobe. For more ideas, try making variations of this tutorial by using different kinds of ribbon, or opting to not even use any ribbon at all. You could also create some contrast by choosing a brightly colored thread.

If you want to mix things up, try adding some dried flowers on the inside, or even some nostalgic toys like small ice cream cones or daisies. For other filling ideas, try adding some colorful fabric or sequins to give things an unexpected twist. No matter which style you choose, there’s just so many fun ways to try out this tutorial for clear vinyl hair bows.  Pick up some clear vinyl material from us and make some bows!
