Latex Portrayal in Video Game

There was a lot of buzz a couple weeks ago with the release of the video game “Hitman Absolution”. The game company hired a creative services firm to create a trailer for their game which featured a group of nuns in latex clothing wielding guns, knives, and a rocket launcher. The cadre of killer faux nuns are then murdered in violent and graphic fashion by the games main character.

Many people, including fans of the game series, found the trailer overly violent and disagreed with the portrayal of violence against women. Further, the object of the game is to be stealth in killing your target, therefore the trailer wasn’t even an accurate display of what the game is like.

Despite the drawbacks of the trailer, the outfits were fairly creative. We’ve included some stills of the video below so you can see the outfits, however we chose not to post it on our site due to its violent nature. We have provided a link to it if you would like to watch. We’d love to hear your thoughts on the trailer or outfits.

The contrast between the creative latex costumes and the over-the-top brutality was jarring. If the game is really about careful, stealthy assassinations, the rocket launcher nun scene totally missed the mark.

What stood out to me was how stylized the outfits were compared to how gratuitous the violence felt. It’s interesting you skipped embedding the video because of that, since it really does cross a line for some viewers.

I remember that trailer causing a stir, especially the latex nun outfits paired with such graphic violence. It felt disconnected from Hitman’s usual stealth gameplay, which made the whole concept seem more like shock value than promotion.

I actually liked the design of the latex nun outfits, but pairing them with that level of violence against women made it hard to appreciate the creativity. It didn’t seem representative of the actual gameplay either.

The trailer felt like it was trying too hard to be edgy with the latex-clad nuns and excessive weaponry. It’s odd they didn’t lean into the stealth mechanics the series is known for instead of going full spectacle.
