DIY Faux Snakeskin Table Tutorial

diy-console-table-stepsIt’s time to give your home a fresh little makeover with an easy and simple fabric tutorial. Do it yourself blogger Emily Hart, owner of “Recently The Blog” bought a set of plastic stacking tables from a local thrift shop and revamped them into gorgeous interior decor. Using faux snakeskin fabric, this DIY connoisseur mod podged a set of simple white tables into something more.

Nationally known, Hart has been featured in the likes of HGTV Magazine and Apartment Therapy for her crafty projects. Her materials were snakeskin fabric, a pair of scissors, a brush and a bottle of Mod Podge. Straight to the point, can you believe this tutorial only has four materials, accompanied by four simple steps? Let’s find out more about this wizardry, and see how Emily Hart takes a plain table to new heights by transforming it into a work of art.

First, Emily started things off by using the mod podge on the surface of the table, including the legs. Next, she covered the tables from head to toe with the snakeskin fabric. The next step is simple, just cut off any extra fabric and make sure it fits. Finishing things off, Emily put three layers of Mod Podge over top, but here’s where it gets a little tricky.

Make sure to remember to wait (patiently) for each layer of Mod Podge to dry completely before adding the next coat. If you’ve got time to spare, definitely try to tackle this fun DIY project for yourself. After looking through Hart’s impeccably chic results, you’ll have no excuses to hold you back. Emily suggests trying out different fabrics if you think snakeskin is a little on the wild side for your taste.

The step where she trims the excess fabric seems simple, but I can see that being where things either look polished or messy. Three layers of Mod Podge also explains that glossy, durable finish in the photos.

What stood out to me was her suggestion to swap out the snakeskin for other fabrics if it feels too bold. It makes the project feel way more versatile than just one specific aesthetic.

I like how Emily used just four materials and still got such a high-end look out of thrifted plastic stacking tables. The tip about letting each Mod Podge layer fully dry is definitely something I would have rushed.

Turning basic white tables into something that looks like designer furniture with faux snakeskin is a clever twist. Covering the legs too really makes it feel cohesive instead of just a quick tabletop hack.
