Affectionately known as BlizzCon, this grandiose gaming convention gathers fans of all ages in celebration of Blizzard Entertainment’s most fantastical game universes. The folks over at Sneaky Zebra put together an epic show reel of the most insane cosplays on display at Blizzcon 2016.
We also took a peek at some galleries online, and rounded up some of our favorite picks at the convention. The costume contests are always a fan favorite, and this year cosplayer Steven Scott as “Grommash” took first place, in a completely realistic World of Warcraft cosplay. Oshley O’Neil snagged second as Varian, Cynthia Hall as Elune for third and Alicia Bellemy as Arthas in fourth.
Overwatch, a mega-popular first-person shooter, was a fan favorite at the convention, with many fans dressing up as the heroic characters. Known as Sombra, a brand new character made her official debut, with fans already sporting elaborate cosplays.
One fan wore a breathtaking leather outfit, complete with faux leather in black, purple, and silver accents. She opted for totally realistic looking accessories and completed her look with a bright pop of purple lipstick to finish. Other preferred more classic favorites, like World of Warcraft characters and thrilling figures from Diablo.
We loved seeing all of the incredibly detailed costumes, especially the larger-than-life sets of armor and weaponry that looked straight from the video game universe. If you’d like to check it out in person, be sure to visit their website over at BlizzCon for all the important dates!

That Grommash cosplay by Steven Scott absolutely deserved first place, the realism you described really comes through even in photos. I’m always amazed how close people get to the actual in-game armor textures.
The mention of oversized armor and weapon builds really stood out to me, because those are always the hardest to pull off. Seeing them look like they came straight out of Diablo or WoW is impressive.
The costume contest results were interesting this year, especially seeing Varian and Elune place right behind Grommash. It sounds like the judging really leaned toward craftsmanship and accuracy over just popularity.
I liked how you highlighted the Sombra debut, especially the leather outfit with purple and silver accents. It’s wild how quickly fans jumped on a brand new character and already nailed the details.
Sneaky Zebra always does a great job capturing the energy of these events, and pairing that with your gallery picks gives a nice balance. Makes me wish I’d paid more attention to BlizzCon 2016 at the time.
That Sombra cosplay with the purple lipstick detail sounds like such a small touch, but it really completes the look. It’s those finishing choices that separate good cosplay from great.
Overwatch clearly dominated the floor, but I appreciate that you still called out classic Blizzard franchises. It’s cool that Diablo and Warcraft designs still hold their own visually next to newer characters.
