Inspired by Jill Sander Spring/Summer collection from 2011, this idea uses clear vinyl material to create this look. Everyone can see exactly what you’re hoarding in your bag, so try not to overstuff it too much!

For materials, grab a half a yard vinyl, a pair of scissors, needle and thread, some tape and sew-on snaps.

  1. First, start by getting your fabric and tracing out the shape onto a pattern.
  2. Measure 14.5 inches for one side and 10.5 inches for the other side. You’ll also need to measure 7.5 inches and 6 inches to the ends of the square pattern.
  3. Tape the pattern lightly onto the fabric, and then start by cutting it out carefully with a pair of scissors. Work slowly to avoid any errors.
  4. Fold the edges inward to create an envelope type of shape.
  5. Use your needle and thread to sew each side in place.
  6. Be sure to watch the video carefully to copy the finishing method when you get to the corners. Last, you’ll want to sew on your snaps to the edges of each part of the bag to create your closure method.

The final product looks totally chic as can be! Add your cellphone, some lipstick and a few of your favorite novelty items to the inside of your clutch. Transparent or clear vinyl is such a fabulous way to add a clean, minimalist touch to any look.

Sew-on snaps seem like the perfect closure here, since they match the minimal look and won’t distract from the transparent design.

Using tape to hold the pattern onto the vinyl is such a practical tip, since pins would leave marks or holes in the material.

The nod to Jill Sander’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection really sold me on the clean aesthetic, and the clear vinyl keeps it feeling modern instead of dated.

I like that the materials list is short and accessible, just vinyl, thread, snaps, and tape without needing specialty tools.

The envelope-style fold is clever and keeps the construction simple, especially for anyone who doesn’t want to deal with zippers.

I didn’t realize how important the corner finishing would be until it was mentioned, definitely something I’ll pay extra attention to in the video.

The suggestion to keep contents minimal is real, because a clear clutch will definitely expose any clutter you try to hide.
