Talk about a fun summer DIY project! This super easy do it yourself tutorial was originally posted on the blog, Crafty Chica. If you’re all about creativity and having fun with texture, this is the perfect craft project for you to try!
For materials, start off by grabbing a box of Fruity Pebbles cereal, and about half a yard of clear vinyl fabric. You’ll also need a sewing machine, clear or white colored thread, some tissue paper, no-sew fabric tape, a pair of pinking shears, and velcro tape. For fun accents, try adding sequins, rhinestones or even small printed images for an additional decorative feel.
To get started, cut out the vinyl fabric with a shape measuring about 32 inches by 11 inches.
Then, you’ll want to fold the fabric in half, so that you will have two layers of fabric measuring approximately 18 inches by 11 inches. Next, you’ll need to sew the sides of the pouch. First, place down a piece of tissue paper to the top and bottom of where you’re planning on sewing. The tissue paper will help the fabric slide effortlessly through the sewing machine. Finish off this step by backstitching and completing with a double row to secure in place.
Now, this next step is super fun, add in your Fruity Pebbles cereal, and along with any additional accents you’d like. The sky’s the limit when it comes to getting creative and having fun! Add in shiny sequins or rhinestones for a notice-me feel. Or, you can even toss in a few printed images for an even bigger sense of wow.
Then, you can bend the bottom half of the pouch and apply the tissue paper along the sides. Sew along the edges, and you’re almost done! At this stage, make sure to separate some of the inner contents of the bag so that they will be equally dispersed to the front part of the flap.
To finish, you need to apply the Velcro to the center of the bag. Then, you can attach the no-sew tape to the front part of the bag. For more creative ideas, try experimenting with different types of fabric for the trim. For this project, she opted for layers of green sequins and poofy white ball accents for a playful feel.

The step where you bend the bottom half and sew along the edges sounds like where the pouch really starts to take shape.
Using pinking shears on vinyl edges is a clever touch, especially since it adds a decorative finish without extra trim.
That tip about placing tissue paper on both top and bottom before sewing vinyl is something I’m definitely saving for other projects too.
It’s cool that you left room for experimenting with different trims, because I could see swapping the sequins for something more minimal.
Backstitching and doing a double row for strength makes sense here since the pouch will be bulky with cereal and embellishments.
I like how you suggested separating the cereal pieces toward the flap so the front looks evenly filled, that detail would make a big visual difference.
I never thought to use tissue paper to help vinyl feed through the machine, that tip alone makes this project feel doable for beginners like me.
Half a yard of clear vinyl seems pretty economical for a project that looks this eye catching, especially if you make more than one.
This feels like a great craft to do with kids, especially since filling the pouch with cereal and decorations is basically the most fun part.
The idea of sealing Fruity Pebbles inside clear vinyl is so nostalgic, and the 32 by 11 inch sizing makes it sound like a pretty roomy pouch.
Adding small printed images along with the cereal is such a fun idea, almost like making a tiny floating collage inside the pouch.
Folding the vinyl to get two layers at 18 by 11 inches is a smart way to simplify construction without cutting multiple pieces.
Velcro closure feels like the right choice for this since a zipper might be tricky with the thickness of the vinyl and contents.
This really leans into texture with the crunchy cereal, slick vinyl, and sparkly add-ons, which is what makes it stand out.
The combo of green sequins and those poofy white ball accents sounds wild but somehow perfect for a playful summer vibe.
The no-sew fabric tape addition is nice for people who want cleaner edges without doing extra stitching work.
I hadn’t considered using cereal as filler before, but Fruity Pebbles’ colors make way more sense than something plain like rice.
I appreciate that you mentioned clear or white thread, since colored thread would probably distract from the see-through effect.
