Tim Gunn – Illusion Gowns
With Lifetime set for it’s upcoming premiere of Project Runway Season 14, it’s true,Tim Gunn has shown us all how to “make it work” for years. When it comes to the nude illusion gowns from the 2015 Met Gala, the 61-year-old fashion mentor had quite a lot on his mind about the matter. Although many celebs like Beyonce, Kim Kardashian and Jennifer Lopez embraced the trend, Gunn thought the transparent dresses were vulgar, distasteful and disrespectful overall to the event. While Gunn didn’t like the transparency at the Gala – we offer some designs with transparent latex that even Tim Gunn would approve.
Glossy and chic, one transparent latex outfit teams a puff sleeve blouse with a voluminous skater skirt. Cute additions, like an oversized bow and Baroque embroidery detailing, keep this outfit looking youthful and fresh. Show off your playful and girly side by sporting a puffy bow collar, baby blue bodice coordinated with a sheer rose colored skirt. Experiment with pastel hair and minimal makeup for a look that’s grunge-girl approved. Or, go for an elegant look with a simple black dress with frill sleeves in a trendy color like coral. The finely cut latex ribbons look charming, while the scooped neckline adds visual interest and a heightened sense of drama.
Theatrical and alluring, the “Red Swan Latex and Lace Gown” features amazing detailing in a tasteful transparent style. The swirling heart motifs and dot designs are totally swoon-worthy. Crazy for couture? Atsuko Kudo nailed it with a gorgeous, full-length scalloped cup gown in semi-transparent cloud grey lace. The antique gold tassel earrings complete this vintage-friendly look.
Edgy and futuristic, another darling Atsuko Kudo creation features a transparent bodysuit adorned with an oversized floral print. Keep things chic with chandelier earrings and a chain cross-body bag. From latex couture gowns to sugary sweet babydoll dresses, there are tons of transparent latex alternatives to the daring illusion gowns at the Met, and Tim Gunn himself might even reconsider his take on the matter. These lovely latex looks prove that the transparent trend is here to stay.
