Jupiter Ascending Latex

jupiter-ascending-mens-latex-shirtLatex extraordinaire, House of Harlot, is the esteemed design team behind the costumes featured in Jupiter Ascending. The fantasy film was brought to life by the Wachowski brothers, who are most well known for their work on “The Matrix”. In Jupiter Ascending, the costume work included tons of intergalactic inspired fashion, including luxe latex looks.

Mila Kunis takes the lead, starring in the film as Jupiter Jones, alongside Channing Tatum, who plays her love interest as Caine Wise. Throughout the movie, the designers placed heavy emphasis on showing the luxurious fashion of the various alien races. Major looks included long gowns with beaded detailing, along with decorative embellishments and yards of lace. In stark contrast, several characters were spotted wearing slick latex costumes designed by House of Harlot.

While Jupiter Jones stood out from the crowd with an opulent floral gown, an alternative character also shined in latex. The two toned latex outfit featured an ivory colored bodice with intricate rows of black detailing. The catsuit also incorporated panels of transparent paneling for an added stand out effect.

In similar fashion, other characters sported blue and black latex catsuits. Glossy and cool, these catsuits definitely gave off an aerodynamic vibe, including a highly reflective effect as result of the latex material. One of the supportive characters for Caine sported a metallic blue catsuit with a pewter colored base. Dare we say cyborg chic? Absolutely! This high gloss piece looked totally fresh, with an immaculate attention to detail and complex design.

The film wasn’t highly regarded by critics, but then again, that isn’t saying much. We’ve certainly never seen robots with such edgy fashion sense lately. One thing is for sure, the latex fashion in Jupiter Ascending is definitely out of this world. Bravo, designers over at House of Harlot! Feeling excited to get started on a cosplay? Funny how the film wasn’t critically loved, yet the costumes like those blue and black latex suits still get talked about years later.

Seeing how detailed those latex costumes were, especially with the paneling and color blocking, makes cosplay from this film feel both challenging and exciting.

I always thought Jupiter’s floral gown got all the attention, but the transparent paneling in those latex suits added a surprisingly modern edge.

What stuck with me was the reflective quality you described, it really made the latex outfits feel futuristic rather than just edgy.

The contrast between the ornate beaded gowns and the sleek latex suits was one of the few memorable parts of the film, especially those glossy blue and black catsuits.

I didn’t realize House of Harlot was behind those Jupiter Ascending looks, but the two toned ivory and black latex catsuit you described really stood out on screen.

Those transparent panels in the catsuits were such a bold choice, especially combined with the high shine finish of the latex.

It’s interesting how the Wachowskis leaned so heavily into fashion worldbuilding, especially with the reflective latex giving those alien characters an aerodynamic vibe.

That metallic blue catsuit with the pewter base you mentioned honestly felt more sci-fi than anything else in the movie, very cyborg chic indeed.
