Throwback Thurs: Terminator Leather

A cult classic for thriller and sci-fi fans around the globe, the dystopian futuristic fashion trends from The Terminator series are on-trend for today’s style. With a fifth installment slated for release in 2015, the Terminator series and its timeless appeal paves the way for some seriously rebellious costumes.

The original film featured a burly Arnold Schwarzenegger as a “T-800” programmable cyborg sent back into time with a mission to destroy Sarah Connor, the mother of a future rebel leader. Armored in a pair of black sunglasses, a bulky moto jacket and matching leather pants, the assassin mercilessly paved his way through the city.

A go-to outerwear staple for bikers, punk rockers and cyborgs alike, a classic motorcycle jacket is always down for the road. Film buffs might not need a refresher, but punk fashion popped up throughout the film series, everywhere from biker gang outfits to studded vests. Get some inspiration from the 80’s action flick and toughen up a khaki cargo jacket with triangular leather patches and pyramid studs.

Arnold Schwarzenegger’s infamous line, “I’ll be back.” is practically unforgettable. True to his word, Arnold’s back in action with some stylish newcomers in tow. Emilia Clarke, better known as “Daenerys Targaryen” from her iconic “Game of Thrones” role, looks ready to rock and roll with some of her rugged leather gear for the upcoming film.

Clarke is shown looking dressed to kill with a belted leather moto jacket, fitted leather trousers and of course, an automatic weapon. Check out more of this bad ass biker chic fashion inspiration online or in theaters with Terminator Genisys next summer 2015.

Interesting that you brought in Emilia Clarke’s look from Genisys, since her belted moto jacket and fitted leather trousers feel like a sleeker evolution of Arnold’s original bulky gear.

The idea of upgrading a plain khaki cargo jacket with triangular leather patches and pyramid studs is a cool nod to the punk elements you mentioned from the biker gang scenes.

I like how you connected the T-800’s simple combo of sunglasses, moto jacket, and leather pants to today’s biker staples; it really shows why that silhouette keeps coming back.
